One gets the sense that the Josh Dee sections in the novel involve Berger re-evaluating her own approach to pornography in general, and to Deen in particular. In the afterword to Little Cat, the 2013 Coach House omnibus containing the re-release of Berger’s first two novels, Berger references Deen, the “porn-boy-next-door,” who “will not have sex with a woman on camera who does not want to have sex with him.”
